Fort Myers Beach
Fort Myers Beach is filled with every Southwest Florida requirement; beaches, shopping, dining, year-round entertainment and continuous fun in the sun. The 7-mile long island has a wide, white beach and an intricate web of back bays.
Often called “the world’s safest beach,” Fort Myers Beach is fun and energetic. The miles of gentle sloping shorelines into the Gulf offer hours of beach activities, pure relaxation and magnificent views of breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. The Gulf is continuously filled with an array of water sports. There are parks and recreation areas throughout and the marinas, boating and fishing charters offer additional vacation entertainment.
The view from the Matanzas Pass Bridge getting onto the island is postcard perfect: a large fleet of shrimp boats line part of the bay and dozens of sailboats and live-aboards dot the harbor.
Fresh seafood and waterfront views are available at many restaurants along the beach, bay and Times Square, a favorite place to shop, watch sunsets or just hang out. The streets are alive with tourists and locals alike. The island attracts family vacationers but also lures about 12,000 students during Spring Break every March and April.
The U.S. Census says 6,561 people lived here in 2000, mainly in the central and south end of the island with a median home value of $193,900 and a median household income of $48,045.
